From: James <jimscst@aol.com>
Date: Tue, Oct 8, 2013 at 1:16 PM
Subject: Fwd: Club Expo
To: Farmtastic 4Hers <farmtastic4h@gmail.com>

Sent from my iPhone

THIS IS A FORWARDED MESSAGE FROM 4H HEADQUARTERS.  BIG JIM WILL BE THERE WITH (HOPEFULLY) MANY OF YOU JOINING HIM!  THIS IS A CLUB EXPO - NOT JUST A 5K RACE!

Just a reminder that the Club Expo is this Saturday at the East Middleboro Clubhouse grounds. Bring your own table and EZ up if you want to use one. There is electricity for those that need it.  We would like representation from All of our clubs so we can show the public the variety of programs in Plymouth County 4—H, even if you are not taking on any  new members. The purpose of the event is to demonstrate 4-H as well  to allow clubs that need members a chance to recruit and finally to give clubs a chance to fundraise.

If you can't go, please see if a member of your club would like to represent the club with a display.

Let us know if you need electricity and would like to also do a demonstration. The ring is available for demos. We will have WZLX there as well.

The event is rain or shine.

Thank you

SATURDAY

Hi All,
This Saturday is the Topsfield Fair - all are welcome to come whether or not you are showing your cow. (BigJim just texted ALL should come to Topsfield!!)  We will not be meeting at the on Saturday.  Let Big Jim or Mrs. Peavey know if you need help with a ride and we will figure something out.

Below is an email from Jaime RE Topsfield as well.

Hey guys,
So for those of you planning on showing at Topsfield, you need to do your entries online. YOU need to create YOUR OWN account. Its super super easy, just go on topsfieldfair.org , select cattle, scroll down to "Related Exhibitor Handbook Sections 2013 - Cattle" click cattle (you may be able to just go directly there from the email if the word cattle is blue) then follow the instructions from there... theres also a tutorial provided here ( http://www.topsfieldfair.org/ehtutorial.php ) incase what I just said makes no sense... Call or text me if you have any questions...

I've also attached the form with everyones cow information... some of it is missing and Im sorry about that...

Thanks,
Jaime

A Thank You from Mrs. Loring for Farm Day

Thanks so much for bringing Farmtastic 4-H members to Farm Day at the

O'Neil Farm. With your club having such a busy fall season, we appreciate you dividing

the group, so some kids could be with us. The Farmtastic 4-H club always draws some

interest at Farm Day and your tables and information add important agricultural

information to the day.

I enjoyed meeting you briefly after all these years and hope you and the 4-H members

enjoyed the day.

Best,

Pat

P.S. It is always fun to see your club and their cows at the Marshfield Fair. This year

was no exception. Hope the kids won some ribbons that we can put on our website and

in our spring newsletter. Send pictures any time. We would love to see them.

MEETING TONIGHT AND FAIR UPDATES

TONIGHT OUR MEETING AT THE FAIRGROUNDS WILL BE HELD IN THE DAIRY BARN.  THERE'S HAY TO UNLOAD, AND BANNERS TO PUT UP ETC. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BRING YOUR TACK BOX AND LEAVE IT IN PREPARATION FOR THE FAIR, FEEL FREE TO DO SO.

PLEASE SEE THE BELOW LETTER RE FAIR UPDATES

Dear Parents and Exhibitors,

We are happy to welcome your child to our 2013 Marshfield Fair.  We feel a great responsibility in caring for your child while he/she is with us at the Fair.  We would like to remind our exhibiting families of our policies.

As in previous years, the Fair Board is prepared to feed exhibitors on the days of their shows, and stewards will be fed daily.  Volunteers, parents, siblings, and exhibitors not showing on that day are asked to please provide your own meals and snacks.  Family and leaders are welcome to eat for a small $3.00/meal donation if sufficient food is available.  If a child is hungry at the Fair at mealtime and their food has been forgotten or lost, please let the Kitchen Staff, know.  Necessary arrangements will be made to see that the child is fed.  To assist in meal planning, just click on this link:  http://jotform.us/form/31365487685164 and indicate the meals that your exhibitor plans to eat at the 4-H Kitchen.  You must register for meals by August 16th

If you are dropping your child off for the day, after signing him/her in with the Activities Coordinator in the Livestock Office, help him/her find a place "behind the scenes" to store his/her gear, including their lunch bag or cooler.  Most children will need two or three drinks for a 4-hour stretch at the Fair in August.  A nutritious snack is also a good idea.

Midway Policy:

Any exhibitor who is at the Fair for the day or part of the day or as a steward will be allowed to go out on the midway.  All exhibitors without their parents in direct proximity will stay within the boundaries of the livestock barns or the rest rooms.  Trips to the rest rooms will be in pairs, and all exhibitors will check in with either the Livestock Superintendent or the Activities Coordinator before leaving and upon their return.

As mentioned above, we would appreciate your immediately sending us any forms checked above which were missing from your entry packet.  If the required forms are not received in time, we regret that your exhibitor will not be allowed to participate.

Thank you for your cooperation with the above.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.  We wish you all good luck in your shows, and, most importantly, have fun!

Sincerely,

Marie

Notes from Monday's meeting

Hey guys!

I want to start off by saying that I think we have a really great group
of kids this year and I'm really excited to see you all learn and grow
with your cows this summer! We had a great showing tonight and I
honestly couldn't be happier!

Anyways, for those of you who weren't at the meeting tonight, or those
of you who will forget to tell your parents everything we discussed, I
just wanted to send out a reminder. We talked about a lot tonight so
stay with me here...

First and probably most important... we decided on our summer meeting
times for this year!!
As a group we decided these would probably be the times that work
best for the majority.

********************
The meeting schedule will go as follows.
Every Monday and Wednesday at O'Neils 9am-10:30/11ish
1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at O'Neils
9am-10:30/11ish
2nd Monday night of each month at the fairgrounds
6pm-7:30 (hasn't changed)

********************
Monday and Wednesdays will begin June 24th. I understand some of
us aren't out of school by then, but for those of you who get out early
on either day just ask me ahead of time and I'll be more than willing
to stay later with you! The new week days are just a trial, if they end
up not working for a majority of people they may be subject to change.
Ending times are flexible... it's whenever you're done or need to go!
If those days don't work for you, or even if they do and you just
choose to work with your cow more, feel free to go outside of meeting
times. There will be a notebook in the barn for you to sign in when you
get there so we know who/when is going. If you choose to go outside of
meeting time, you MUST HAVE an adult or 2 junior leaders with you. This
is for you and your calves' safety. Also Chris is always very busy at the farm,
so please don't drop your child off and assume they will be supervised.
Please try your best to make it to every meeting. Your hard work
with your calf this summer will pay off at the show, trust me it's
worth it!
As a way to thank Mr. O'Neil for allowing us to lease his cows, we
will be cleaning pens at the farm this summer. Meetings will probably
be split between you cleaning pens and you working with your calf. Or
we may have you clean pens one meeting and work with your calf during
another. However we decide to do it, everyone will need to clean a pen
at some point, and I don't want the same 5 kids doing it all the time.

NEXT, we will be going to the Marshfield Farmer's Market at the
Fairgrounds Friday June 21st from 2-6pm. We will be making baked goods,
bringing animals, doing crafts, and possibly selling reusable shopping
bags and face painting. Molly's aunt was kind enough to allow us to use
her kitchen the Monday and Tuesday before to make baked goods. It's
small so kids signed up for shifts at the meeting tonight. I'd like
around 4 people there including myself for each shift..

Kids who are currently signed up include:

MONDAY: 6/17
4-5: Becca and Dory
5-6: Sam, Maddie and Corinne
6-7: Jack?

TUESDAY: 6/18
4-5 Catie and Dom
5-6 Sadie and Kevin
6-7 Tim

**The kitchen is located at Acorn Canning Company, 1175 Ocean St.
Marshfield MA. (right after the Rexhame general store)

If you're available any of these times email me and let me know! If you
aren't available to help bake, but wish to drop off supplies such as
mix, pans, etc. feel free to do so at anytime we're there or at Big
Jim's ahead of time. We're planning on making Chocolate Chip cookies,
Brownies, Cake pops, and whatever else we get mix for that has no nuts
in it!

OK, sorry this is a lot of information but bear with me I'm almost
done...

COW BUDDIES!!! YAY
here's a list of all the buddies for this summer... anyone not listed
is just a free range buddy, you can work with whoever needs your help!

Jaime and Logun
Corinne and Nick
Sam and Catie
Danielle and Colby and Sadie
Alexa and Dory
Molly and Kevin
Catherine and Cassie and Tim
Maddie and Dom
Nicole and Cam
Becca and Ryanne

You may not know your buddy YET,  but don't be shy because you may have
a new best friend! I hope this is implied but I'll say it anyways, you
don't need to work strictly with your buddy, if somebody looks like
they need help, help them! Also, ask your older buddy anything you
aren't sure about! You might think it's a stupid question but they may
have had the same one when they were new!

Alright I'm basically done...

We have a meeting this Saturday at the barn at 9am ...I will have
a printed out T-Shirt order form for those of you who didn't understand
or missed the online sign up, this will be the last meeting before I
place orders (for real this time) so if you can't make it but want a
shirt make sure you let me know what sizes you want! Also everyone will
need to prove to me that they can successfully tie a safety knot before
they take their cow out so bring your best knotting skills! (If you
don't know i'll be happy to teach you!)  :)

That's all I have to say for now... See you all Saturday!
Thanks, Jaime

There will be an extra barn meeting at O'Neil Farm tomorrow, Thurs 4/25 from 6:30-7:30.   Per Big Jim it's for all who are planning on leasing a cow so we can get a better idea who would like a cow, and what cows are available to match up with.

Thank you!

Meeting

Just an early reminder (in case we all lose power) that our next meeting is this Monday, Feb 11 at the fairgrounds 6-7:30.  The new schedule is first Thurs of the month, 6-7:30, second Monday 6-7:30 (both at the fairgrounds) and third Saturday 9-10:30 at the barn.  We are going to play the Saturday meeting (Feb 16) by ear this month as who knows what the weather will bring - so info on that as we figure it out.  Beef cattle topics were assigned at last night's meeting to those who were there.  If you couldn't make it you can email Jaime.

Stay warm and safe -

Update from Jamie

Hey everyone just a couple of updates for now.

At our last fair meeting( Jan 14th) we decided to change the
meeting schedule a bit. We want to be able to meet as much as possible
but obviously cant expect everyone to be at every meeting, but please
try to commit to at least 2 of the three meeting each month. The
schedule changes very rarely and isn't that hard to plan around. Our
new meeting times will be the first Thursday of each month from 6-7:30
at the fairgrounds, the second Monday of every month from 6-7:30 at the
fairgrounds (same as before) and the Third Saturday only at the barn
from 9-10:30. please be sure to note that we moved the first barn
meeting of each month to the first Thursday night, because of the
weather and availability of members. Come spring this will probably be
changed back.

We also discussed the possibility of doing group projects every
month, so that you guys can teach each other rather than me lecturing
for an hour and a half. February's project animal is going to be beef
cattle! At the meeting on Thursday each group or individual will sign
up for a certain category (i.e cuts of beef, digestion system, anatomy
etc.) and will do some research on their topic(at home) to present to
the club later in the month. We will work on posters/handouts the
Monday meeting that month, and present them at the Saturday meeting.
I'm not totally sure how well this is going to work out...it's kind of
a trial month...the more you guys put in to it the more you will get
out of it... so basically just have fun with it!

Another big topic last meeting was T-shirts! We are putting in
another order very soon!! I don't have digital images of the designs
but will have copies at each of the next meetings. I'm setting the
order deadline at FEBRUARY 16TH. We have a barn meeting that day, and
two fair meetings before then. I won't need a payment on that day but
can't stress enough that you must give me your sizes and which style(s)
you want by the end of that meeting!!! I'm gunna feel really bad when i
have to tell you that you cant get a shirt because you're a week late
putting your sizes in so PLEASE don't put me in that position ):

Also, VP season is upon us!!! EVERYONE in the club is REQUIRED to a
do Visual presentation. No this does not mean if you think you're
special you can just skip them. This means that EVERYONE is REQUIRED to
do one. If you cannot make the county day (March 2nd) you need to talk
to me so we can set up a day you will do one for the club. If there's
more than 3 people we may just devote an entire meeting to VP's and set
it up with judges(similar to the county day) and have fun with it! We
will be briefly discussing how to do a VP at the meeting this Thursday,
although i know some of you have heard it 1000 times already. 4-H
Visual Presentation Day will be Saturday, March 2 at the Silver Lake
Middle School in Kingston, MA. 4-Hers should arrive by 9am and
presentations will begin promptly at 9:30 and we hope to finish up by
12:30 PM. Information and registration forms are posted on the Plymouth
County 4-H Website at www.plymouthcounty4h.org Registrations are due to
the Plymouth County Extension Office by Feb 27. Please contact the
office or me if you have questions about signing up or about your
visual presentation.

OK just a few more things! sorry this is so lengthy..

1. I'd like everyone to be keeping a 4h binder. The county supplies
them and you should all have one. Especially with all the projects
coming up you need a way to keep organized and retain all this
information! You should also be keeping copies of your lease forms and
such in your binder! So please just get a three ring binder and some
white lined paper and bring it to all the meetings! If you don't have
one or can't get one just send me or big jim an email and we can easily
get you one!

2. Obviously this email had a lot of information, but if you had been
at the last meeting this wouldn't all be a bunch of breaking news to
you! As always, Meeting attendance is still an issue. I've seen a lot
of improvement which i am very grateful for, but I feel like we still
have less than half of the club at each meeting. Your meeting
attendance does matter and we do keep track! Come spring when you
haven't been at any winter meetings and you want a calf, you'll be at
the bottom of my list because there are kids who are at every meeting
and prove to me that they deserve to get a calf for the summer!  Sad
but true.

Alright now I'm done, enjoy your week and see you Thursday!
