A brief Fair Survival Guide and Supply List

A brief survival guide for you first time parents!

Your child will need for show days:

A white shirt (does not need 4H embroidered on it – there are stickers they can use)

Tan or white pants (you may want to consider 2 sets of show clothes – they get dirty!)

Hard toe boots for the show ring (in a pinch riding boots or paddock boots will do)

Several 4H T-shirts to wear – they will collect more and more over the years

Extra jeans to change into when (not if) they get soaked/filthy  (no short shorts allowed)

A sweatshirt

Sunscreen

Up to you if you want to send a phone, but if you do, also send a charger, and consider an extension cord

SLEEP (this is the hard part – your child will never want to leave the fair)

FAIR SUPPLY LIST

This is a reprint of a list we used a few years back.  Many of these items you can borrow from the club, especially the pricey ones like clippers.  There are also some show halters, barn halters and lead ropes available to borrow.  Mr. O'Neil usually has enough neck straps for the heifers.  You should really  consider getting some of the other grooming supplies and show box on your own if you are able so that you will be all set for the big day! If you have any questions as to what you may be able to borrow or what you should buy, contact Big Jim, Molly D. or Corinne – they are all happy to help!

Show  Halter

Barn Halter

2 Lead Ropes

Neck Strap (a large dog collar may do if your calf is small)

Clippers

Shampoo (whitening and all purpose)

Q-Tips

Water Booth Help Needed

Hello!

Good Morning, 4-H Parents & Friends,
Thank you to those who have already signed up to work shifts at the 4-H Water Booth at the Marshfield Fair this year. I just checked the schedule and find that we still need coverage for two shifts at the Big Booth (across fr the Show Ring) and for 10 shifts at the Little Booth (across fr the Rabbit Barn). Time is running out, so please consider helping out by taking one or more of these open shifts. Just click on the link below to view the signups so far and where we need help.

If you can't help out, pls forward this email on to anyone you know who might be interested in helping to work in the Water Booth to raise money for the many programs the 4-H Extension Office offers the youth in Plymouth County. Such a worthwhile cause! Let's fill up that schedule!

Its Auction time again!

Each year the Plymouth County Advisory Council holds an Auction Fundraiser at the Marshfield Fair for the Plymouth County 4-H program. This year the Auction is on Friday August 28 at 7:00PM.

The proceeds of the auction are used to fund 4-H events through out the year as well as our Awards Night in January.

Items of varied values are accepted.  No item is too small or too large. If you can not make a donation personally, please reach out to friends and family.  Every donation helps.

Upcoming meetings and events

Just a reminder we have meetings at the barn at 9 am tomorrow (Thurs) and Sat.  Also Mon the 10th is our usual monthly meeting at the fairgrounds 6 pm.

In addition Big Jim will be bringing animals to the following events and would like as many 4Hers to come help as possible.

89 Court St in Plymouth, Weds 8/12 - not sure of start time, but likely around 5:30 pm. I'm sure Big Jim will clarify the time at Monday's meeting. The animals will be an educational "display" for the New Hope Chapel's Vacation Bible School which is educating children about the importance of agriculture in third world countries and how much a cow, goat, or other animal can improve a family's life.  This group is raising money to purchase an animal or two for a family in need. The animals will be for production of milk, eggs etc, not for slaughter.

The Kiss a Cow Contest on Sat 9/19 from 10 am until noon (load up earlier at Big Jim's house).  Event is at Christ Lutheran Church in Scituate, 460 Chief Justice Cushing Way.
